Claim vs. Evidence



Make a claim related to wind about a) hurricanes, b) Alaskan weather systems c) Iowa rainstorms. Then, brainstorm a list of weather tools that could be used to help you gather specific evidence to support your claim.

Rewrite the definition of prevailing winds from this Infoplease article in such a way that a fifth grader could understand it. Use a diagram and concepts learned in this unit to support your ideas.

hurricanes usually have about 125 to 175 mph winds depending on the category. The winds can move heavy materials such as cars.

Alaskan weather systems; minters can be extremely harsh, but yet summers cab reach to about 60 degrees. Winters can be as low as -40 degrees. On occasion, the northern lights can occur.

The wind tends to move in a circular motion forming hurricanes in the Atlantic. The wind in Alaska is mainly calm, up to 30 mph. There has been a lot of rain that is causing flooding in many counties. Wind influences how the weather is. Some tools you could use are a barometer, rain gauge, and a wind scale tool.

Hurricanes have strong wind that usually have swirling motion that travel in the direction of the predomint winds.
