SPF Protection lab

Based on what we did yesterday, what do you think is the purpose of SPF suncreen?  What mistaken ideas (misconceptions) might people have about sunscreen effectiveness?  What did you observe in your lab that might help change their minds?

The purpose of SPF sunscreen is to black the sun's harmful ray from burning your skin. That it does not work very well, it blocks the sun from getting you a tan. That the beads without sunscreen stayed dark, so it will be like a sun burn and the beads with the sunscreen stayed lighter, which is like getting a tan without getting burned.

I think that the purpose is to protect people that wear it. One thing that people don't realize is that when you rub it in the SPF decreases by half. We think everyone should use a higher SPF to stay protected.

people use it because it makes them feel warm and fuzzy on the inside and they don't want to get sunburn.

Unknown said...

that the less spf it is the more darker you get

Unknown said...

people use it to at least have some protection from the sun. people may think that since they have a higher number and rub it in then thats their spf but they don't know it gets cut in half. No sunscreen protects a 100% but they should still put it on because it does help some.

people use it so they don't burn and it makes them feel warm and fuzzy all over

spf sunscreen keeps the harmful UV rays off your skin.the higher the spf the stronger the sunscreen NOT true the spf 30 works better than the spf 15.

It's purpose is to block the UV rays from burning our skin. It's really not that effective because you're supposed to reapply it every 2 hrs. to get a better results which most of us don't usually do.

Unknown said...

the purpose of sunscreen is so you won't get burnt as bad.

Unknown said...

The purpose is to make the sunscreen more protective. People may rub it in which decreases the effectiveness by 50%. Our tests weren't a 100% accurate because of the being exposed to the sun before the sunscreen was add.

Unknown said...

So they don't burn and it makes them feel warm and fuzzy all over

Unknown said...

the purpose is to protect our skin from the suns harmful uv rays. you can put sunscreen on a sunburn and not get burnt again. you have to put sunscreen on before you go out in the sun and reapply it.

Unknown said...

because you dont want the pain of a sunburn and to get skin cancer

Unknown said...

It is trying to show people that the higher you buy will help you more so you dont get sun burned

Unknown said...

the purpose is so you dont get burnt..the higher the spf the better protection there is

Unknown said...

The purpose is to protect yourself from harmful rays. People don't realize that when you rub in your sunscreen it decreases by half and you should put more on every 2 hours. I think everyone should use a higher SPF sunsrceen.

no one wants skin cancer so people put on sun screen once and be done what u might not know is you need to aply every 2 hour so it wont wear off and leave you unprotected

Unknown said...

The purpose of sunscreen is to prevent your skin from getting burnt and to protect your skin from the sun's rays. People may think that when you rub sunscreen into your skin, it has the same spf as the bottle says. It really is cut in half. You have to apply the sunscreen before you go out into the sun in order to truly protect your skin.

I think the purpose of sunscreen is to protect our skin from the rays from the sun awhich can cause to sun burn. And repeated sunburn could lead to skin cancer

So people can at least have some protection agaisnt the sun. They help to block the uv rays from the sun so we dont get fried.

Unknown said...

I think its to protect our skin from the suns rays.

Unknown said...

that the less spf that you use the more you would get burnt. And the point of different ones is so that you can protect you skin more if you choose a higher spf.

Unknown said...

The purpose is to not give you all the UV's that the sun is giving off! So you don't burn. People might think that it might not work and that you need to rub in when you put it on but really it wears off more if you rub it in! What i say in the experiment yesturday that about half the sun screan comes off when you are outside!

Unknown said...

So people will know what is the best to use

Unknown said...

To protect your skin from harmful uv rays. It stays on all day without wearing off. Spray on protects you more than lotion.

Unknown said...

I think the purpose is to protect people from the sun and the harmful rays that it sends out. Some of the misconceptions about it are that the higher the spf the better it will protect you, but after about 30 they have the same result they just might not last as long.

Unknown said...

I think the purpose is so the UV rays from the sun will not burn your skin as bad as if you don't have any sunscreen on.

I think the purpose of sunscreen is to protect you from getting sunburn. I think people mistake sunscreen for not getting sunburned but they can also get a tan. Based on our experiment from yesterday that is not always true.

Unknown said...

The purpose of the sunscreen was to protect the beads from the UV rays. People who want to get a tan might think that the sunscreen completely blocks it from the rays. Well in the experiment, the beads still changed to a darker color even with a higher SPF than others.

The purpose is protect your skin from the harmful UV rays the sun omits. Applying sunscreen also helps so you don't get a sunburn. Some misconceptions are that when you rub in the sunscreen SPF goes down. The extra 15 SPF is worth it even it if costs more, you will block out more UV rays. Another misconception is that sunscreen wares off throughout the day because of sweat and water.

its to protect your body from the sun's UV rays.one misconception is that sunscreen will stay on your skin and not wear off. also people think that spf 50, for example, will stay spf 50 for the whole day, when really if you rub it in, it will only about to be half of its power (25 spf)

Unknown said...

I think that people use it so that they dont get sun burnt and have to go through the pain afterward. and that you don't get skin cancer and have to go through that when we get older or something like that.

Unknown said...

I think that the purpose of SPF is to block the harmful sun from burning your skin. One thing you don't want to do is rub it in because it wares it off faster.

Unknown said...

I think the purpose is to use it so you don't get burnt and so if you have a history in your family of skin cancer sunblock will help protect you from getting it...so it is very helpful.

Unknown said...

so you dont get burnt and red

Unknown said...

so you don't get sun burn

This shows how effective sunscreen, and the higher number of spf can be. Many people out there don't wanna be protected, and would rather have darker skin. This can also be deadly. This is what i learned from this assignment.
