How to read instructions

Today, we will be working on # 1, 2, and 3 found on pp. 39 and the reading found on pp. 41-43 I will not be giving directions, because I want to see how well you can read and follow directions. One note: a pencil means you should write something in your journal.

Now, before you start, think about how you read a magazine. Think about reading a menu. Think about reading a set of directions on how to program your new ipod. How do these things differ? When you read a science book, what should you be looking for to help your understanding?

Answer in a comment, and then head back to the room.

Theres certain info you want to get out of different readings
Key words/ vocab
Explanations and sample questions

you have to read everything on the page. you can use the glossary or things in the back of the book.

---In science books you should look for bold, underlined,or colorful words and see what pops out at you and look at the terms closely. How the things differ is like for the ipod you wont want to read it youll want to use it aND STUFF THEN FOR READING A menu you look to see what looks good or sounds good---- How they differ is how you look at things

when you are reading science books you should look at the headings, bold/colored print, and other facts listed on the side.

other things like ipods you might want to try to read word for word so you know what your doing...menus you look for the things you like and read them.

magazine-you only read what you think looks interesting
menu-you read everything that you think would be tasty!
ipod-sometimes you need to reaqd all the directions to figure it out but if you already kinda know how to work it you can skip parts
Science Book-you should be looking for headings or bold face....

they differ becuz of the different directions but you can never switch the directions with something that they don't go to.

They differ from Punctuation, paragraphs, and the instructions are in steps.

You should look for bold words Or even italics

You should look at the bold headings on the page, look at the title and any pictures showing examples or showing info on that subject. Some science and math or history books have short stories or examples of things, so look at that too.

Words that jump out. Words that are italics, bold, different color, and headings that seem important. Some people are visual so pictures can be very important.

they differ because one tells you step by step and the other just gives basic directions

Magazine, you look at the pictures and get the words next to them,
Menu, you read each heading, decide which you want, then get more detailed as it tells each food, then the description of the food.
Instructions, you read at the top, and do what they tell you as you go along, you can also skim the entire thing, then go back to begining and folo the directions.

When reafing a text book to help you under stand, you look for the heading that you k=need to know about, then you read that article about the thing you want.

a magazine is fun to read the menu has listings bold. directions to an ipod is easy but not fun

They don't really differ cause when your reading a menu or a magazine etc. your looking up something information for example what you want to eat and what is the price you are doing the same thing with a science book looking up information.
